Cyborg vs. Kunitskaya Fight UFC 222

Headlining UFC 222 tonight is, according to the betting lines, one of the biggest mismatches in UFC title history. The tilt features Cris Cyborg, putting her featherweight title on the line, against UFC debutante Yana Kunitskaya, who briefly held the Invicta bantamweight belt last year.

It’s expected that Cyborg will demonstrate once again why she has been the most dominant female mixed martial artist on the planet. However, anything can happen in this sport, and if Kunitskaya can find her way to victory, this will be one of the most shocking and memorable nights (for hardcores) in recent memory.

The co-main event features Frankie Edgar, who was previously in the headline slot opposite the now-injured featherweight champion Max Holloway, looking to hold his number one contender status versus the surging, and undefeated, Brian Ortega. The winner of this bout will almost certainly be in line for a title shot. Will it be Edgar (again) or is Ortega really the next big thing at 145lbs?

The remainder of the PPV card would make a great FOX card. For $65, the UFC might be asking a little too much for the exciting, yet largely unknown, combination of Sean O’Malley and Andre Soukhamthath (who fight at bantamweight). Also on the card is Stefan Struve vs. Andrei Arlovski, which somehow has never happened before and Cat Zingano returning against hot prospect Ketlen Vieira.

The FS1 prelims features four fights tonight. That card is headlined by BJJ ace Mackenzie Dern making her Octagon debut against Ashley Yoder (at strawweight). The rest of the card has Beneil Dariush vs. late replacement Alexander Hernandez (lightweight), John Dodson vs. Pedro Munhoz (bantamweight), and C.B. Dollaway vs. Hector Lombard (middleweight).

The Fight Pass early prelims include three fights. Those are headlined by Mike Pyle’s ‘retirement fight’ against Zak Ottow in the welterweight division. Rounding out the card are bantamweights Bryan Caraway and Cody Stamann, and light heavyweights Jordan Johnson and Adam Milstead.
